Lucy loves Daniel Tiger and always talks about Trolley. (If you don’t know, Daniel Tiger is the animated version of Mr Rogers. It’s the trolley who takes Daniel and all his friends all around his neighborhood.) Every time she sees a bus or a cable car, she screams “Ding Ding” and gets so excited, so we knew we had to bring her on a street car adventure.
She’s been on the bus many times, but there is nothing quite like a real street car. While we waited on the street for the car to pull up, Lucy saw it down the street and lost it. As it pulled up to us, she jumped up and down and had the biggest smile on her face.
We got in the car and let her pick a seat. She ran right up to the window and settled in. You could see all the excitement on her face as we watched the city go by. Every time they dinged their bell, her eyes lit up while she watched the people get on and off. She was so mesmerized by the busy streets and all the noises, she just couldn’t get enough.
We didn’t even have to ride anywhere specific. We just rode it aimlessly, with nowhere to go. When it was time to get off, we basically had to pry her out of the seat and promise another ride very soon.
It just goes to show that you don’t always have to spend a lot of money or go over the top. Sometimes the simplest joys are the best. It made for a great rainy day activity and Lucy had the time of her life.
